Happy Cat Month!

Get Your Cat the Care It Needs During Happy Cat Month at University Parkway Animal Hospital in Jackson, TN

Cats often seem to take a back seat to dogs in many memes and stories, partly due to the cats' seeming independence and capacity for self-care. They bathe themselves, they can entertain themselves, and they require less attention - or so the popular image goes. In reality, your cat needs proper care and lots of attention, and the purpose of Happy Cat Month is to ensure all cat owners know what their cats need and how best to provide that. And at University Parkway Animal Hospital in Jackson, TN our veterinarians provide excellent cat health care when your pet needs it.

The History and Purpose of Happy Cat Month

Happy Cat Month is a series of four week-long spotlights on aspects of cat care. Week 1 focuses on health, Week 2 on enrichment, Week 3 on multiple-cat care, and Week 4 on how you show your cat that it's valued and loved. Happy Cat Month was started by the CATalyst Council, an advocacy group for proper cat interaction and care.

The month came to be because the stereotype of cats as independent and not really needing much from humans other than a full food bowl is incorrect. Many cats are independent, but many others crave interaction with their humans and love to play. Stories abound of rescue cats helping their human owners by alerting the humans to a problem or by providing comfort when the human is distressed. Cats need a much fuller life than the one the stereotype affords them.
